About the Claims Process

When you report a loss, you will receive a claim number for reference. Keep this number available in case you need to inquire about your claim. All claims are assigned to your personal claims examiner. The examiner will contact you by phone within 24 hours of filing your claim to review the details of the claim with you. If inspection of your property is necessary, then your personal claims examiner will make the arrangements for the field adjuster to contact you.

To help avoid further damage to your home, you can make temporary repairs. (i.e., placing tarps on damaged roofs or boards on broken windows); be sure to keep your repair receipts. If you are unable to live in your home as a result of the damage, keep receipts for any costs incurred for additional living expenses (i.e., lodging, meals, etc.). Until the field adjuster’s inspection, do not discard damaged items. If the items must be disposed of due to a safety hazard, take photos or video footage showing the damage.

If your dwelling has sustained water damage, please contact Florida Specialty immediately for help in completing any necessary water extraction. Our water extraction professionals work for industry-certified companies that offer around-the-clock extraction and drying service.

When requesting bids for repair work, we recommend using only licensed contractors. Provide photocopies of all estimates and bids received to your claims examiner. Below Florida Specialty has provided a list of “preferred contract vendors”, especially if the damage is water related.

If possible, gather the following information prior to meeting with your field adjuster: an inventory of damaged items (including photos and/or receipts), a copy of the fire or police department’s report, copies of temporary repair receipts including plumbing repairs as applicable to your loss.
