Make only temporary repairs (those designed to protect your home from further damage) until your claim is settled.
Keep receipts for temporary repairs made to protect your home from further damage. If you are unable to live in your home as a result of the damage, keep receipts for any costs incurred for additional living expenses (lodging, meals, etc.).
Until the claims representative’s inspection, do not discard damaged items. If the items must be disposed due to a safety hazard, take photos or video footage showing the damage.
When requesting bids for repair work, we recommend to use only licensed contractors. Provide photocopies of all estimates and bids received to your claims representative. Florida Specialty can provide a list of “preferred contract vendors”, especially if the damage is water-related.
Before contacting your insurance agent or Florida Specialty Insurance Company, report theft or burglary to the police. Be sure to request a copy of police department report for your records and to provide to your claims adjuster.
